Last evening, our Lodge had the distinct honor of presenting Mr. Dallas Bayless with the Lamar Award of Excellence as part of our annual Teacher Honorarium program. This award recognizes outstanding educators who not only excel in their profession, but who also shape the character and future of the young men and women entrusted to their care.

Mr. Bayless has demonstrated exceptional dedication through his leadership of the Lubbock High School Band, guiding students to state competition in San Antonio since his arrival at LHS. Beyond these impressive accomplishments, he has earned the deep respect and admiration of his students—an achievement that speaks far louder than any accolade.

It was a privilege to welcome Mr. Bayless and his wife to the Lodge for this presentation. After an earlier date had to be postponed due to security concerns affecting the school, their presence made the evening all the more meaningful. Their commitment to education and to the well-being of their students reflects the very principles we seek to uphold.

Freemasonry has long encouraged the study of the Seven Liberal Arts and Sciences, among which music holds a prominent place. Music not only refines the mind but elevates the soul, fostering discipline, harmony, and expression—qualities clearly embodied in Mr. Bayless’s work.

We extend our sincere congratulations and gratitude to Mr. Bayless. We look forward with great anticipation to the continued impact he will have on the hearts and minds of the students in our community.

James A. Clark

For James, the journey of Masonry—which began in May 2000 at Clinton Lodge No. 23—is about more than just titles. Currently active in Lubbock Lodge No. 1392, Wolfforth-Frenship Lodge No. 1447, and various York and Scottish Rite bodies, he sees these affiliations as avenues for deep Masonic education. James advocates for a Craft where the bonds of the dining hall are supported by a dedication to our ancient truths. His mission within the District 93 MWSA and beyond is to harmonize social ties with reflection, moving the brotherhood from rote memorization toward the genuine pursuit of light.
